The 3DS is off to a slow start, but we’re still starting to hear about new games for the system. One of them is fairly unusual game from Sega. It’s called Rhythm Phantom Thief R, and involves theft, adventure, intrigue and music! Don’t worry if you start getting deja vu – Square Enix’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy sounds like it’ll have similar gameplay. Rhythm Phantom Thief R is Ralph, though he goes just by Phantom Thief R when he’s on the job. He’s only 18, but he’s already reknowned in Paris. He steals things, then three days later he sneaks them…

They have a devoted fanbase and people keep buying them. Which is exactly why New Love Plus, the first 3DS entry in the series, is causing a huge commotion even though people don’t know exactly when in Fall 2011 it will be released. It’s so popular that you’re not going to just be able to go out and…

Japan Import: Keiji Inafune and Idea Factory collaborating on PSP dating sim

You know how you kind of expect the weirdest video games ever to come out of Japan. Well, prepare yourself for another one. Though honestly, Bakudan Handan, an Idea Factory otome (girl’s dating sim) game doesn’t score as high on the weirdness scale as games like Kyuiin (PS1) and Duel Love (DS). It’s a PSP game involving a hostage situation at an amusement park, love and Mega Man co-creator Keiji Inafune. Okay, I guess that is still pretty weird. And no, that screenshot is not from Bakudan Handan. It’s from Hyperdimension Neptunia MKII, the PS3 sequel to Idea Factory’s Hyperdimension…

Hot Japanese Imports: Sega Saturn

When it comes to console wars, there are usually at least three factions (systems) involved. Right now, we’ve got the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 dividing gamers. Before that, there was the Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox. Today, we’re going to focus on what pretty much everyone considered the “loser” of the fifth generation of console gaming, the Sega Saturn. While it may not have been as beloved among gamers as the PlayStation and N64, the Sega Saturn was still a notable machine with quite a few interesting games. If you’re a collector, you should still keep an eye out…

Japan Import: Dark Souls will be one week late

Dark Souls won’t be frustrating and challenging Japanese gamers exactly when it was supposed to. It turns out that there is going to be a very slight delay. It’s only one week though, so the game will be out on September 22, 2011 instead of September 15. Which really isn’t a big deal. I mean, it’s only seven days. What is odd is that there isn’t any real reason given for said delay. From Software, which is handling both the development and publishing the game in Japan, just says there were a few issues that resulted in the PS3 game…

Important Importables: Type-Moon

Hot Japanese Imports: Type-Moon

Type-Moon is really pretty inspiring. The company started small, with two devoted people who loved what they were doing and wanted to share it with others. That dream lead to the indie developers becoming a major commercial force, creating products and original properties that inspired all kinds of sequels and offshoots. While the original games were adult-only products, most of the follow ups are appropriate for all audiences. In fact, two of the games inspired by its popular Fate/ series, Fate/unlimited codes and Fate/Extra, are available in English on North American PSPs. Type-Moon Type-Moon is actually pretty inspiring. The company…
