Can you play PS2 Japanese games on a US PS3?

PS3s are region free right? If they are, and I’m almost certain they are, then yes.

Sorry Blaine, but you’re incorrect. PS3 games are region free, so you can play PS3 game bought anywhere on a console from anywhere. However, PS2 games were not and still aren’t region free, so you can’t play them on a US PS3.

That’s impossible and will never happen. At least not legally. Playing JAP games on USA console is just like playing pirated/burned/copied games on a standard console. Like every other console before the PS3, you’ll need some type of mod (modification) to be able to play. So far, the only mod for the PS3, that I currently knows exists right now is “the magic switch”. It’s not for sale and can only be made, if you’re a electronic techie. PS. The region free only applies to movies, not games.
