I knew it! I knew Square Enix wouldn’t let me down! The company would never allow a Final Fantasy game to remain a Japan exclusive.
See, back in October, 2009, Square Enix released a DS game called Hikari no 4 Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden. It was a stylized, 3D, RPG that was a spin-off of the Final Fantasy series. It was supposed to be slightly simplified, but looked intriguing – what with the hat job-changing system and it abandoning MP in favor of charging attacks. There hadn’t been any news of a wider release, until now.
Siliconera has potted a Square Enix trademark for a video game called The 4 Heroes of Light. Coincidentally, Hikari no 4 Senshi pretty much directly translates to 4 Soldiers of Light. Sounds close enough for me.
There’s no news yet on when The 4 Heroes of Light is going to be making it’s North American debut. I’m guessing Square Enix will be talking it up at E3 2010.
