Catherine‘s release date is inching nearer. The PS3 and Xbox 360 adventure game with puzzle/platform aspects comes out next month in Japan, right after Valentines Day on February 17, 2011, so perhaps we’ll hear something after that. Up until now, most trailers and screenshots have been designed for fanservice means. The latest trailer isn’t really like that. Well, at the end it is, but for the most part, it’s about the nightmares Vincent will have to survive if he wants to sort things out with Catherine and Katherine and find a happy ending.

In Vincent’s dreams, he has to climb a tower. A very dangerous, precarious tower. Which means he has to meander around, avoid traps, use his pillow to attack rather violent sheep that get in his way and, of course, arrange lots of crates/blocks to create a safe path. Each level seems to have a rather ominous and massive monster following close behind him, waiting for him to slip up or slow down so it can destroy him. Failure isn’t an option, as it seems like a sure way to get a bad ending.

You can see all the new Catherine gameplay for yourself right now. Atlus Japan has just released a brand new trailer. It’s a bit bloody and violent, so you may not want to watch it at work. Oh, and a little suggestive too, but I think we’ve come to expect that from any kind of Catherine media.

As Siliconera points out, not all sheep are bad in Catherine. A few of the ones Vincent encounters seem to be counterparts to his real life friends. I recall hearing something about achievements/trophies for helping out people – perhaps Vincent will have to do something for their sheep counterparts.

In other Catherine news, Atlus still hasn’t announced a North American release date for this intriguing PS3 and Xbox 360 game. Maybe we’ll hear something next month.
