I want to import some Japanese PS2 games, but I recently read that you can’t play them on an American PS3. So I was wondering should I buy a Japanese PS2 or an American PS2?

If I buy a Japanese PS2 do I have to buy a different set of cables for it and will it be okay?

Or if I buy an American PS2 then what do I have to do to it to make it play Japanese PS2 games?

Translate Japanese games – Because you understand the language

What I would do is to buy an American PS2 and have it modified to play japanese games. The benefit of this is that you will be able to plug it into the wall socket without having a transformer to change the voltage. Japan’s voltage is 100 versus America is 110 -120, this is enough to fry the Japanese Playstation. In Hawaii, there is a place that will put a modifier chip in for like $30 , this allows the PS2 to play Japanese games. The name of the store is :

yes, the ps3 is not region free for ps1 and ps2 games, only for the ps3 games. buy the american ps2 system, but make sure you buy swap magic disc 3.6. the swap magic disc can play japanese ps2 games on the american ps2 system.
